Key messages • Healthy eating programmes delivered in early childhood education and care (ECEC) settings (e.g. preschools, kindergarten, family day care) may improve child diet quality, likely increase fruit consumption, may have favourable effects on vegetable consumption, and likely have no impact on consumption of less healthy foods and sugar-sweetened drinks. They may have favourable effects on child weight and may reduce the risk of being overweight or obese.

Key messages - Quality improvement programmes can improve diabetes care, especially when multiple strategies are used in combination. - Strategies used in these programmes that lead to the largest improvements in key outcomes in people with diabetes are: case management, team changes, patient education and promotion of self-management. What is the issue?

Cochrane UK is hosting Cochrane’s Colloquium at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre (QEII) in London, UK from 4-6 September 2023. With the theme “Forward together for trusted evidence”, the 2023 Cochrane Colloquium is set to be a groundbreaking event with a mix of learning, networking, plenary speakers; a unique and memorable experience at one of London's most renowned venues.

Key messages • We are only confident in the effectiveness of one antidepressant: duloxetine. We found that a standard dose (60 mg) was effective, and that there is no benefit to using a higher dose. • We are uncertain about unwanted effects for any antidepressant as the data for this were very poor. Future research should address this. • In clinical practice for chronic pain, a standard dose of duloxetine may be considered before trying other antidepressants.

Cochrane evidence is now accessible in 21 languages, breaking linguistic barriers and empowering global evidence-informed health decisions. Many people do not have access to high-quality health information, because it is not available in a language they understand. Only about 6% of the world’s population are native English speakers and 75% don’t speak English. 

Key messages - Methylphenidate might reduce hyperactivity and impulsivity and might help children to concentrate. Methylphenidate might also help to improve general behaviour, but does not seem to affect quality of life. - Methylphenidate does not seem to increase the risk of serious (life-threatening) unwanted effects when used for periods of up to six months. However, it is associated with an increased risk of non-serious unwanted effects like sleeping problems and decreased appetite.
